Pulsar CS400 and SS400 boost Bajaj’s moto at Auto Expo 2014

A new Bajaj Pulsar was expected to make its presence felt sometime very soon, especially considering that multiple close to production ready models were spotted on test on the outskirts of Pune just before 2014 India auto expo, and in the months up to it.

And boy did, Bajaj pull off the greatest show ever. What was expected was a smaller cc Pulsar, but the manufacturer is quite clear about ensuring there’s a Pulsar in as many variants, and segments as possible. Using the Auto Expo platform, Bajaj has shown a cruising sports Pulsar. This one runs on a 375cc engine, is liquid cooled, and a 4 valve. Triple spark with fuel injection, and a 6 speed transmission, and yes, ABS equipped brakes are seen. Named Pulsar CS400, the company says, here is ‘India’s No 1 Sports bike.’

And it’s not just a manageable sports bike that Pulsar is presenting, there’s also Pulsar SS400, which shares its specs with CS400, but this one is essentially a super sports bike. While both bikes share a fair bit, in appearance they are distinctly different. Obviously the tone has been set by Pulsar in the short run, and Bajaj is going that extra mile to claw its way into other segments after having ruled the roost these past few years with the Pulsar 150, Pulsar 180, Pulsar 200, and Pulsar 220.

Also on display at Auto Expo is the company’s succesful Pulsar NS200. Fitted with a SOHC 4-valve Triple Spark Engine, combustion stands improved at 27% faster than twin spark and 50% faster than a single spark engine to ensure better performance, emission and fuel efficiency.

Liquid Cooling enhances longer engine life, no power fading and lower engine noise. Powered by a 6-Speed Gear box ensures better performance across the entire rpm band for a sports bike ride experience. Gas filled Nitrox Mono suspension improves ride and handling, and front and rear Petal Disc brakes improve braking.

The 200cc Pulsar has already helped Bajaj create a niche small cc sports bike sports bike segment that’s important because of its recah and affordability. The new dual-colour range of Pulsar’s was introduced recently.

Pulsar SS400 and CS400 will be a space to look out for especially in terms of what price these bikes will be made available at.
